a5c7b9f00b You control Batmanhe fights to subdue The Joker and his fellows when they seize control of the Arkham Island. After the Joker breaks free from his imprisonment and takes over the entire facility of Arkham Asylum, Batman finds himself having to come against some of his greatest enemies and several inmateshe sets out to stop the clown prince of crime. Batman. He is quite clearly one of the most iconic superheroes ever created, if not THE most iconic superhero ever created. His enemies suchThe Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman have all been justiconic over their near 70 year run. When I heard there was a game made from Batman that was considered one of the greatest superhero games of all time I decided to take a look.

The plot is that after getting The Joker "too easily" Batman finds out he has a diabolical plan up his sleeve. Release all the inmates on Arkham Asylum and cause more chaos. You playBatman and you must fight the villains seen both on the big screen and in the comic books. So Bane, Joker, Scarecrow and Posion Ivy are all enemieswellother characters someone only being introduced to them won't know about suchHarley Quinn (to be honest I found her annoying - I guess it's that voice), Zsasz and Killer Croc.

So the plot is very simplistic but things suchThe Gameplay are fantastic. It is a button masher at times but it never gets boring. It is fun to throw Battarangs and use other weapons suchthe Grappling hook but nothing beats the hand-to-hand combat.

I also enjoyed the Challenges. Basically there are 2 types of challenges. One of them is to beat upmany of The Joker's Henchmenpossible and the other is to stealthily get rid of armed Joker Henchmen.

If there is also something I liked it would have to be the drug-induced Scarecrow nightmares. With some of them we see what Batman is going through. As wellwhat he went througha child and how scared he really is to cross the border between doing good and going psycho.

I don't really talk about this but the voice acting is spot on in this game. Aside from Harley Quinn, who I just found annoying I can't really see any weak link in the acting.

So this game isn't really "Best Superhero game of all time"some people are making it out to be but then again the game is worth a look and play through. Aside from the simplistic story and Harley Quinn's voice (I know I'm nitpicking but… listen to it!) there isn't really that much that's wrong with it. What can be said about Arkham Asylum? As a die-hard Batman fan, this (along with the more recent Arkham City) is exactly what I have been looking for in a video game based off of various Batman characters and stories. The game takes place directly after Batman has brought Joker over to Arkham Asylum;you walk through the beginning with Joker on the way to his confinement, we meet a few characters along the way, and you can already tell things are not right. Soon, Joker's plan explodes upon Batman and the Arkham Asylum guards, and you're then forced into working your way through the entire island to try and stop whatever he has planned.

There are so many things to love about this game. My biggest love is the fighting style. I could sit there and just fight endless numbers of thugs until my eyes bleed; the way Batman has a free-flow style of fighting, zipping from one enemy to the next, is absolutely incredible, and of course there are many neat little gadgets/tricks to use while in combat that turn out very interesting. The arsenal of weapons Batman has available to him are excellent; I particularly enjoy his grappling hook with the three hooks in one for some reason. Then of course there is a wonderful cast of villains to fend off including the already mentioned Joker, Harley Quinn, Dr. Jonathan Crane (aka Scarecrow), Killer Croc, Bane, Poison Ivy, and lots of fun side quests to solve The Riddler's many riddles; we get a lot of extra villains through The Riddler quests, you can collect tapes from various psychiatric sessions with many criminals (no doubt some of these characters will be lost on casual Batman fans who have no idea about villains other than the few who have become staple additions to the old show/movies/et cetera), and also there is collectible information about the founder of Arkham Asylum, Amadeus Arkham.

There are a lot of extra things in the game for hardcore Batman fans. As I mentioned previously, many widely unknown characters from the Batman graphic novels and comics turn up throughout your journey in Arkham Asylum in smaller roles than The Joker, Bane, or Poison Ivy. Victor Zsasz shows up for a brief encounter. Some of the others who appear through references are: Hugo Strange, Black Mask, Hush, Calendar Man, Firefly, Prometheus, Ratcatcher, Great White Shark, and even the body of Ra's Al Ghul can be found in the asylum morgue, wella couple small appearances by the Ventriloquist's dummy, Scarface (albeit very brief). Then of course there are references to well-known characters in the Batman universe suchOswald Cobblepot (The Penguin), Jack Ryder, Mr. Freeze, Two-Face, Catwoman; also some of the good guys show up suchCommissioner James Gordon, Oracle, and asylum guard Aaron Cash (we even see the brief hallucinations of Thomas and Martha Wayne). So those who know Batman well are bound to be surprised by the inclusion of several lesser known names here; it's clear the developers wanted to make a true Batman game, and not just something to cash in off the recent revamps by Christopher Nolan.

One of the greatest things about the game is the voice work. Many voice actors who have been a part of the many animated incarnations of Batman over the yearsregulars pitch in here. Most notably, Kevin Conroy (as Batman), Mark Hamill (as the Joker), and Arleen Sorkin (as Harley Quinn) do amazing jobs, usual (they also perform smaller roles suchHamill doing the voice for the puppet Scarface). It really adds something to have amazing voice work done on the characters. Batman in particular is so well-voiced by Conroy that it's too bad he isn't the right fit for a live-action rolethe World's Greatest Detective because his voice is so perfect for it.

All in all, 10 out of 10 stars. One of the best video games ever conceived, and one of the only games I have bothered to waste away many hours and days on just to say I completed it to a full 100% with all achievements gained. Highly recommended for video game buffs, and VERY much so for any hardcore Batman addicts with an affinity for gaming.
